After she hires Kalinda, Diane keeps finding excuses to watch her. Not because she thinks she's made a mistake — a woman in her position does not make mistakes — but because she never gets tired of watching Kalinda, all leather and boots and dark colors, lipstick sharp, hair pinned tight, against the paneled wood and subdued decor of the firm's loosely-planned offices.

She likes the contrast even better at home, when it's Kalinda’s clothes and her own abandoned on expensive carpet, Kalinda's black hair spread across her own crisp white sheets, Kalinda's gloved hands against her own bare skin.
